Emmett's first friend

005, originally uploaded by megan bauer.

Here he is by popular demand. The one you've heard so much about. This is Troy. Troy is Emmett's first "real" friend. And, when I say "real" I mean that this is the first friend that he chose. Before Troy, Emmett's friends were kids of my friends, friends by default (not that he doesn't love those kids....because he certainly does). But this is the first friend that he chose without my influence. And, what makes this even more exciting is that Emmett is quiet and shy and doesn't make friends quickly. This is his third year of pre-school and this is his first friend. Last year at his parent-teacher conference, his teachers told me that he still didn't participate tons w/ the kids. That he kind of stood on the side. And, some of those kids were in his class two years in a row. This year, they tell me is different. They say (and one of his teachers is the same as last year) that he and Troy are a "perfect fit". That Emmett leads Troy (who is younger then he). They say that Troy is as nice and kind as he is. They say that because of Troy, Emmett is more confident AND they even play w/ other kids. I'm so happy for him. Are you ready for the best part of this relationship??? They live (honestly) 4 houses down from us. What is the chance? And, his family is super sweet. We have had LOTS of afternoon play-dates. Next year they will do kindergarten together. Yeah, for friends!

Way to go Emmett! It is so fun when they start making their "own" friends. Lauren is still best friends with the girl she met in the beginning of K. How lucky that they live so close!

i still have dibs on emmett for a son-in-law, he and sophia are very similar. her preschool teachers said the exact thing that she stood and watched all the other kids. it was sad to hear but this year in K she has come out of her shell. glad he has made a good friend! i know i sure miss my old B'ville girls from down the street!
