He wore the shark costume, but it took lots of coercion and he's thinking he's just going to be a soccer player (like last year) tonight. He says the shark costume isn't comfortable. (well.. .NO KIDDING! since when we're costumes comfortable???). After Owen's party, we headed to Emmett's school party (O had a half day today), where Emmett wore a lion costume we dug up in the basement. Let it be noted that this is his 3rd costume change. (firefighter, dinosaur, and lion) and he's hoping I'll let him wear his glowing shirt for trick or treating (see the graveyard pizza pic below). He doesn't want any part of a costume! Henry outgrew his monkey costume. After washing it after the Davis's party, it's now way too small, I bought 6-12 months! What was I thinking? Anyway, he didn't seen to mind wearing Owen's old frog costume. After Emmett's party we have Owen's parent teacher conferences, then trick or treating! Crazy day! I can't help but think how thankful the teachers must be that Halloween is on a Friday this year.
We did the obligatory carving pumpkins tonight. Seriously, one of my least fave holiday activities. But, they turned out fairly nice. We also made "graveyard pizza". That's what the boys are holding here. It's really a brownie in a pizza pan w/ tombstones(Oreos) on it. More pics to follow.
Owen was picked to be a student council representative for his class today. He was super excited. He got to do it last year, and had a great time. I think his fave part of the "job" was collecting cans for the school in the lunch room during the school can drive. Oh, and he LOVES going to the monthly meetings.
Yesterday was a gorgeous day here in Bville. And, looking at the forecast, quite possibly the last nice day for a VERY LONG 6 months. Here are some scenes from our day.
In this pic, Emmett had fun examining what he told me was a stink bug. Eddie said it really is a stink bug? Any insect experts out there?
We finished our crazy day yesterday w/ a Halloween Party at our good friends, The Davis's. They have a party every year and the kids (and adults) love it! Amy does SUCH a great job w/ games for the kids. This is the first year that Owen actually wanted to dress up. He was a man eating shark. Emmett couldn't decide what he wanted to wear and he didn't really want to dress up, so under much coercion he found a dinosaur costume in the basement. Trick or treat.
What an honor! Out of all of the kids who got to do ball boy for Bville at different times this year, Owen was one of 5 chosen to do ball boy for the Sectional game. It's a big deal. I also think it's cute that they always put Owen in front of the Baldwinsville boys. They put the other ball boys on the opposite side of the field or in front of the visitors. The lady in charge said that the players LOVE Owen and he's the coaches fave, too. It was super cute. When he walked out to the field before the game all the players yell, "OWEN!!" He's had so much fun. Can you see him on the side in this photo? He takes his "job" very seriously. And, it was FREEZING yesterday. I couldn't get him to wear a coat or hat or gloves. The Bville boys are having quite a season. They're undefeated and are ranked in the state. They won their sectional game 7-0. BTW...the Bville girls soccer team is undefeated, too. Also ranked in the state.
Henry started refusing to sit in his high chair at around 10.5 months. He likes to sit at the boy's table in the family room w/ the boys. This wouldn't be a problem if he didn't dump his food when he was done! We are going to have to replace the carpet in the family room when we move, I'm sure of it.
My baby turned 11 months old on Sunday. It's really hard for me to believe that almost a whole year has gone by.....I'm not ready for him to be "big" yet, but I'm excited about seeing the kind of boy/man he turns into. He's changed A LOT in the past month. He's still not walking and doesn't really even seem that close to it, but he pulls up to standing everywhere. He can climb the stairs, and he's a master crawler. He's FINALLY turned into a momma's boy, and screams when I hand him off to most people (even Eddie). Although, if he's in a good mood, which he usually is...it doesn't last long. He hates his car seat and if we are in a new environment (store, park, etc.) he wants DOWN to explore. This isn't fun (because he's not walking) and I hate letting him CRAWL on the floor of the McDonald's bathroom! His high pitched scream that he mastered last month is starting to fade. THANK GOODNESS! And, he doesn't sit in a grocery cart or stroller very well. I usually take his red push car w/ us to run errands because he sits in that just fine (as long as I keep moving). He has five teeth. And he breastfed for the last time on Friday (boo hoo). He still has continuous colds, but hasn't had an ear infection since his tubes were placed last month. He still hasn't been vaccinated (because of his colds) since 4 months. He babbles a lot and says uh-oh all the time. He claps and prays and hums along to music. He eats pretty much anything, but his faves are blueberry and cheese (oh...and cheetos!). He sleeps all night most nights, but sometimes we have to go in and put his pacifier back in his mouth. He likes to be held around the house and so I spend a lot of time holding him walking in circles (remember those days, ladies?). He cries if someone goes outside w/o him and if the big boys go out w/o him, when he finally stops crying he stands at the back door watching and waiting (see photo). Oh...and he's absolutely as adorable as he was since the moment he was born. We hear lots of "OMG! Look at those eyes." And, he is called SHE a lot! (even in blue). Apparently, he's too pretty to be a boy!
Owen has taken a particular interest in hurricanes. It all started w/ the arrival of Hurricane Ike. He was glued to the TV and computer checking where it was headed and what the damage might be. He currently spends most free time, at home and at school, researching hurricanes. Quiz him. He could tell you the names and years of TONS of hurricanes. As if this wasn't enough, he decided to fill a composition notebook w/ the names and years of hurricanes....all in the name of fun. Crazy kid. He took his hurricane notebook to school today to show his teacher. When he got home I asked him what his teacher said. He said, "Ummm...I've never had a student quite like you, Owen."
Before his haircut!
Tuesday was haircut day for the whole Bauer clan. Henry's FIRST haircut! That morning we went to another pumpkin patch w/ our good friend, The Spindler's, from there to My Gym to play, and then for haircuts. Henry did a great job. No crying. He was very interested in what the stylist was doing and tried to grab her scissors a few times. Owen on the other hand spent Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning crying like a hormonal pre-teenager!!! (seriously, at the age of 7 1/2!). He never wants his haircut, and this time I had her cut off a little more than usual and he FLIPPED! I had to listen to things like, "I'm not the same person w/ my hair this short." "No one likes short hair." etc, etc. OMG! Thank goodness I don't have girls, this was enough to put me over the edge. But, lesson learned, I'm picking my battles. I may never cut Owen's hair again.
"I have glasses!!"
Emmett's glasses came in today and when I told him we should go pick them up, he said, "UMMM....maybe tomorrow." So, I picked him up after preschool and said, "we're going now.". He was a little nervous, but now it's pure excitement. We have eyeglass cleaner and every so often he says, "mom...time to spray my glasses again.". He says he can see much better. I'm so happy for him. Henry on the other hand pulled them off his face twice and I thought for sure they were broken (on the first day!) But, they're made out of that flexion material, which is supposed to completely bendable. Hopefully, we'll be OK. He put his glasses in his glasses case tonight and set them by his bed.
I tried really, really hard to get over my extreme fear of choking, and I let Henry have an apple (a whole apple...skin and all...not cut into really small wedges or food processed). I think my big boys were 2 or 3 before I ever gave them chokable fruits: apples, blueberries, grapes. And, I have this feeling that they won't eat fruit (well, Owen won't) because they weren't exposed early enough. Anyway, Henry LOVED it! And, he choked twice (once bigger than the other).
Owen took this picture and wanted me to post it. Sorry about the toilet background. Seriously, do we need a bathroom remodel or what?
All in the same day Henry decided to climb the stairs and get into the fridge. And, he pulls up to standing on everything now. So busy!
Henry points at everything now w/ the cutest little pointer finger that ever existed. It's so sweet (it makes up for the high pitched shrieking he's started...well, not quite).
