Bumper boats and rain

It only rained twice the whole time we were in Florida. The first time was Wednesday from 4ish-7ish.....the second time was here. At the track. Right after we started Bumper boats. It only rained for about an hour and then it was sunny the rest of the day, but it was SO super funny because Owen was the ONLY bumper boat out in the middle of the open while it was pouring. Everyone else was under shelter (see below). I think he didn't know how to steer, but he denied that. He said he wanted to be in the rain. Yeah...right.

Owen was big enough to drive the bumper cars and bumper boats himself (you had to be 50 inches). Emmett wasn't, but he WAS big enough to ride w/ someone and that person didn't have to pay. Owen can't wait to go back for our next family reunion in 2 years, because he's convinced he will be big enough then to drive the race cars (you have to be 56 inches).

The beach, umbrellas, and people during the day. The resort we stayed on was a private beach. So, the only other people there were also visitors of the resort. There were 2-3 lifeguards that knew the groups of people visiting. They also sailed a flag every day of varying colors to let everyone know what kind of beach day it was. For example, 2 of our days were red days - high surfs and waves. Use caution. The rest of the days were green days - calm. Thankfully, there were no purple days - dangerous marine life.

Henry chased the poor birds to no end. At what age do they realize that they will NEVER be able to catch one? I LOVE that he doesn't know that yet.

Destin, Florida has the MOST amazing ocean (Gulf of Mexico) water. You can literally see your toes. You can see fish floating by and you can see her morsel of sand gracing the bottom of the ocean. There is something super special about this location.

Our gang

Just about every morning, we all (24 of us) collected on the beach. We hung out there together until lunch and then regrouped late afternoon. It was SO much fun hanging out together...all of us...everyone in this photo is part of our gang - 14 out of 24 us.

Every room at the condo nets you 2 chairs and an umbrella. We had 4 double rooms, and so this is our collection of chairs and umbrellas. The lifeguards set them up every morning for us and took them down every evening.

The lifeguards put away all the beach chairs in the evening. Eddie and my brother, Brian, played beach soccer. We also ran relay races on the beach and searched for sand crabs (more on that later).

In the evening, the beach cleared out.

The shuffleboard and tennis courts were directly in front of our first floor condo. My boys spent TONS of time on the courts. Notice the ocean in front...beautiful.

In the evenings, those of us that weren't doing other things hung out in the green space. This is one of the few photos that I have of the resort. Why didn't I take photos of that?? Our condo and GG and PaPa's/Eric and Nicki's condo is directly behind where everyone is sitting in this photo - and first floor. The kids could run in and out, so it was perfect. Plus, every evening my boys played shuffleboard and tennis.

We're back

We arrived home from our Florida vacation on Monday late afternoon. I took over 500 pictures and it will take a wee bit of time to sift through them and post the best ones. I'm going to start this afternoon and hopefully have a bunch of pictures posted in the next few days. Today is Potty Training Day 1. So, we're going to be stuck inside for awhile. I'm not sure if he's quite ready to do it yet. He's still young. He turned 21 months today. But, he acts like he wants to use the potty, so I'm going to give it an all out try for a few days and see how it goes.

What we've been up to (continued)..

In exactly, 36 hours we will be headed to Florida. I'm hoping to bring along the laptop and do some posts while we're there, but no guarantees. I may be too busy laying on the beach, jumping waves, or building sand castles :). We're leaving around 5 AM Thursday morn and are driving to Nashville to spend the night w/ my aunt and uncle. My cousins live there, too, and they are all coming along to Florida w/ us (except for my cousin Kate who's pregnant w/ her first babe and due in September. We'll miss you, Kate and Mark!). The plan is to spend all Friday in Nashville and then caravan to Florida w/ everyone on Saturday morn. This Florida vaca is a FAMILY REUNION courtesy of my dear grandma and grandpa. There are 24 of us going, including 8 kiddos and Owen is the oldest. Henry is the 2nd youngest (by 5 months). We can't wait!!!! So, my posts have been few and far between as I try to pack and cram in as much work as I can (oh, and lots of trips to the gym as I try to take off a little bit more weight before swimsuits are required - it seems to be working I'm 6 pounds below what I was when I got pregnant w/ Henry and a mere 14 pounds above what I was when I got pregnant w/ Owen). Yipee!

Emmett and Owen are doing soccer camp this week. It's the first time Emmett has done it, and it's such a big step for him. He wanted to do it and has really, really enjoyed it. Plus, he's playing hard the whole time (it's 3 hours long every morn)!

On the bummer side, I took Henry to the peds surgeon for the little bump he's had upper abdominally. I was fully, completely expecting them to say "it's no big deal." Or, "it's just a cyst." But, no such luck. The surgeon took one look at it and said, "It's an epigastric hernia and it needs to be removed sooner rather then later." UGH!!! What a super big bummer for my little guy. Gotta run.....More later :)
